I've not seen it in anything other than IMAX 3D, so I can't say for certain, but I'd say that for a film like this you should either go for all the bells and whistles or not bother to go at all. And the cinematography is attractive enough that IMAX does add a bit to the experience. The 3D effects are fun, with swords and the occasional skeletal hand pointing out of the screen at you. If you're going to go see it, you might as well go whole hog. Is it worth paying more for 3D? How about IMAX?
